Singing at the Markham Expo 150 Press Conference

Being asked to sing at the Markham Expo 150 press conference was a huge honor and highlight of this past summer. This press conference took place at the Markham Civic Centre on September 5, 2017 and was hosted by the Mayor himself, the Honorable Frank Scarpitti. At the event, there were a number of Regional and Ward counselors who were present such as Nirmala Armstrong, Logan Kanapathi, Amanda Collucci, Joe Li and Alex Chiu. This event was Markham’s way of bringing awareness of their own Canada Day 150 celebrations that was to take place on September 9th and 10th, 2017 at the Markham Civic Centre. At the Markham Expo 150 press conference, in addition to myself, there were some great musical performers who also provided entertainment. Quisha Wint started off the press conference with her amazing rendition of our National Anthem. Country singer Jessica Mitchell also sang a beautiful song called “That Record Saved My Life”.

Another amazing performer at this press conference, and someone who I’ve had the privilege of getting to know a little better over the past months, was Michelle White. Michelle and I met in June/2017 when we were both contestants at the Star Search Markham Competition. In this talent competition, we competed against musical bands, dancers, other singers and musicians. The contest had over 200 applicants and we both were one of 15 individuals to make it to the finals that took place at the Cornell Community Centre. We both placed in the competition and were given the opportunity of performing at this press conference. In addition to performing at this event, we were both asked to sing at the Markham Expo 150 Celebrations on September 8th and 9th. This was a great opportunity for us both as we were the opening acts for the Barenaked Ladies and Tyler Shaw.
